Early on July 26, General Secretary Nong Duc Manh had led a governmental delegation and local provincial authority to visit Tan Cang – Cai Mep Container Terminal at Tan Thanh District, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province.
During the one-hour working session, General Secretary Nong Duc Manh was updated by Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Huyen – Communist Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the Vietnam’s People Navy – with the country’s sea affairs and Saigon Newport’s business performance as well as economic and social achievements by the local authority in an attempt to fulfill the resolution of the tenth National Assembly, Section 4 regarding the “Maritime strategies for Vietnam till 2020” by the Communist Party.
After the visit and working session, the General Secretary was strongly impressed by Saigon Newport’s achievements in fulfilling both economic and defense missions. He also commended the company’s management and staff for their continued and tiredless effort and creativity. As such, for the first half of 2009, Saigon Newport had witnessed impressive growth: container throughput to approximate 15 million tons, market share in Ho Chi Minh City port hub to estimate 79%, growing at 13% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. He also emphasized the neccessity to build and launch the operation of Tan Cang – Cai Mep Container Terminal which enabled the accomodation of mother vessels to directly call at U.S West Coast and which laid a crucial foundation for the development of deepsea transshipment terminals in Vietnam, partaking in fostering national and local economic and social growth. He also spoke highly of outstanding mutual relationship between Saigon Newport and local provincial authority and people.
With regard to the world’s contemporary political unrests, the General Secretary asserted the must to ensure national sovereignty, especially in terms of sea affairs, by accomplishing the said resolution to win the “Maritime strategies for Vietnam till 2020”. An order had been sent out to Saigon Newport and other military units under the Vietnam’s People Navy to jointly outperform both economic and defense missions to help build a comprehensive powerful body, partaking in fulfilling two key strategic assignments by the Communist Party.
On the occasion of the War Hero Day (July 27, 2009), he conveyed the best wishes to all families of martyrs and wounded soldiers of the Vietnam’s People Navy and told all the naval officers, soldiers and staff of Saigon Newport to pay even more attention to repayment policies.
On behalf of the company, General Director Nguyen Dang Nghiem expressed his deep gratitude to the caring manner from the Communist Party, the State in general and the General Secretary in particular, which dedicated to the entire success of Saigon Newport. Mr. Nghiem also committed to follow his sound advice to keep promoting internal forces, self-reliance, solidarity, self-motivation and creativity to outperform economic-military missions and at the same time strive to be self-trained to follow outstanding moral examples of Former President Ho Chi Minh.
