Mr Nguyen Van Cong – Vice Minister of Transport, Rear Admiral Tran Minh Thành – Vice Commander of the Navy, and Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Nghiem – President of Saigon Newport Corporation attended the ceremony.
Tan Cang Pilot Co Ltd has 33 pilots (27 first grade pilots, 2 second-grade, and 4 third-grade), being able to guide all trade vessels calling ports of Saigon Newport (Cat Lai port, Cai Mep port), and guide military vessels as well.
The fact that Tan Cang Pilot Co Ltd being honored with Third-class Labor Medal reaffirms the correct policy of the Government , the Ministry of Defense and the Navy, this is an important milestone in the history of the Vietnam’s people Navy, and especially of SNP, so that the Navy pilots can perform two tasks simultaneously : Serving defense , enhancing port security , navigating international military vessels in and out Vietnamese ports; and guiding up-to-120,000 DWT economic vessels going in and out SNP’s ports.

On the Maritime Safety: the Maritime authorities rate Tan Cang Pilot as the unit that observes strict safety regulations and navigates vessels most safely.
On defense tasks: Being a military pilot company, in addition to the implementation of military tasks assigned by Saigon Port, Tan Cang Pilot also perform guidance tasks for dozens of unexpected millitary vessels by Navy Command: Guiding vessels carrying States and Party’s delegates to visit Truong Sa, guiding modern combat ships Dinh Tien Hoang, Ly Thai To going in and out Navy ports, surveying Saigon channel, coordinating with Vung Tau border patrols in anti-piracy, coordinating with port authorities in searching and rescueing missions (total: 71 voyages, in 2011: 14 voyages, in 2012: 57voyages).
